the project

the travel edit is a personal project i've been working on as a side hustle to my brand & web design side hustle. creating the branding for the travel edit gave me the motivation i needed after a long maternity leave. it helped me dive back into designing with energy and enthusiasm about a new project.

For the travel edit, i focused first on the brand identity - color palette, imagery, and logo. along with having custom icons made to support the brand visuals across platforms. From there, setting up the infrastructure to deliver targeted content became the focus. It's all well and good if you have beautiful branding, but you have to figure out what you're sharing and how you are delivering it.

highlights of the project

Since this was a personal project, I thought I'd share some of my favorite elements of designing the branding for The Travel Edit—a travel advisor and luxury travel content creator.

For The Travel Edit, it was important to infuse personal touches into the branding. I did this by commissioning a set of hand-drawn icons from an artist I discovered on Etsy. These icons add charm and hone in on the "vacation vibes" I was looking for.

Typography came next. Since The Travel Edit offers both travel content and advisor services, the fonts needed to feel approachable without losing a sense of professionalism. I chose a type pairing that balances clean, modern lines with subtle character—something that could carry both a thoughtful blog post and a polished itinerary.

Pulling all of these elements together to build the final mood board helped to shape the look and feel of The Travel Edit as it stands today.
